How to Build A Coffin

What you will need:

  • a lot of cardboard
  • a ton of tape
  • paint
  • marker
  • tape measure
  • box cutter/knife/scissors

… and time!

1.)   I found this blueprint on Pinterest, and I followed the measurements. I used a tape measure, and traced lines as straight as I could on the cardboard box. Then I used the box cutter knife to cut the pieces out. I wanted to make a door to I cut out two of the hexagon-like, coffin shapes. You should end up with 7 or 8 total pieces for your cardboard casket.

2.)    At first, I used tape and other pieces of cardboard to sturdy and strengthen the back of it. Once that piece was ready, I began attaching the sides. I really helped to use pieces of bent cardboard as a brace, connecting the pieces together. It helped make everything secure and strong. Use as much tape as you need!!

3.)     This is what it looks like with all of the sides taped down nice, and secured. We went around the edges and taped them too, to make everything look smooth. If you like the jagged look then, you can skip that part. You just want to double and triple check that this thing is going to last!

4.)     Now, if want a door, we used crutches(we made those things for putting the side pieces together)on both sides of the door for maximum protection. As you can see, we also used a ridiculous amount of tape to hold those pieces in place. We were on our third roll of tape at this point, and very excited to see that it worked!!

5.)     Congratulations!! Now we are officially done with the massive taping section. We have moved on to the messiest portion; painting! I used a old blanket as a drop cloth so I wouldn’t get any acrylic paint on the floor. Fair warning, it wont come out of your clothes, but it will come off your skin with soap and water, and some surfaces it can be peeled or scrubbed off. I used black, dark brown, light brown, and red to paint my coffin. Dive right on in! We started the process by just pouring the black directly on top.

-I didn’t have any big paint brushes, so we worked at it with our hands!

6.) After you finished painting it the base color, let it dry for a few hours before you start working on the details.

…A Couple Hours Later…

7.) We wanted our casket to look as if it was made of wood so we painted lines creating the illusion of slats. Then, I started with my dark brown and began painting swirled patterns.(This time with a paintbrush)

-We went back and added the light brown color around the dark brown to create a highlight and shadow effect. I also went through with the dark brown a second time to blend the two colors better.

8.)     I outlined the slats in black, left the crutches black, and added some detail of nails in black. We only felt up to painting the front of the door, but this is what it looks like. I think painting the cardboard to look like wood makes it look better because the cardboard already has lines and dips in it that can’t be changed, and it gives it a more natural look.

9.)     To finish it off, we splattered some red paint on it to make it look more scary. Then we left it out to dry for a day or two. After that it’s ready to be apart of your decorations!

If you try this creation, post it on your social media with the #mycoffincreation ! I can’t wait to see if any of you were inspired by this tutorial. Stay posted, on more to come. Happy Halloween!

“The littlest birds, sing the prettiest songs.”

“Bluebird”

From the clouds to the ground, followed by an orchestra of chirps. From dusk till dawn our ears are at ease with song. Feathers in flight, crafty minds. Gatherers, creators, innovators. What would we do without these creatures?

There are many superstitions and symbolism from birds. For instance, if one flies in your home, it is believed that someone you know will die soon. If a bird poops on your head, good luck!

A bluebird is a herald of happiness.

Fallen Flower Art

“This is me, after I picked up a bunch of fallen flowers, and I’m decorating graves with them.”
“The finished product.”

Just some close ups, and some more fun and harmless ways to spread art and love. This is an often occurrence for me. It’s meditative, and I enjoy learning about the history of my city and the people who lived in it, what their life was like. Nothing better than paying respects by intricately placing found fallen flowers.

Being…

“Be Inspiring”

Be inspiring.

Be enticing.

Be exciting.

Be daring, be bold.

Go out in the cold snow,

Go out in the warm glow.

Today is the day.

Everyday is the day to make something new.

To show the world what you are.

Subtly or exuberantly.

Free Art

“Flower Frenzy”

Free art is picking up any utensil and just creating with out judgement. This was made with watercolor, no image was drawn before the color. I just let the brush and colors guide my hand.

“Blooming Beauty”

I did this right after I got a package from Art Snacks, all of the new markers in the package needed to be tested. After a little mindless art session, I had this little beauty.

“The Heart’s Heart”

It’s so easy to make art this way. To practice movements and shapes, to practice opening up the buried things in your subconscious. Some of my most cherished creations have begun with a blank page and a blank mind. When the plans never follow through the way you wanted them to, you’ll always have a few minutes of freedom in art’s heart.

Geometric Mandala

Mandalas are one of the most meditative art forms. Mandala is Sanskrit for “circle”, and it usually goes around in a patterned sense. They tend to send you in a hypnotic trance, to give your analytical brain a rest. I love doing pieces like this because they are repetitive, and you can be a perfectionist, or you can choose to be more loose with your lines. With this piece I folded my paper into a grid, and I used a ruler and compass to make my designs. I then painted it with watercolor paint.

Can’t Escape Two-Faced

“Semented in her belly, taking over her mind. Similar to parasite,”they” resite! A constant canvas as the world takes over her skin: So sin Hello and Welcome to my temple. Can “we” still be taken for example? So clarity, goodbye, you come crashing in and leave such a mess every time. So blind, llanding perfect between these lines. Even though “we” can’t even fly, whose? line. I’m guessing mine. When “we’ve” made things too awkward, you blush. “they” laugh. Some unfortunates have “their” cries on que. How could “we” of missed the news. When sirens never sleep, always calling me. Body’s trapped in souls to borrow “they’ve” got scarsto share truth or dares! When she finally leaves I bet she takes the stares! 6″

I made this piece in 2017, I painted it in water color for a more fluid effect. I have always loved drawing faces and eyes, especially feminine ones. I had intentions of it embodying scare tactics and of it resembling a personal point of view. I’ve heard we all have two wolves inside of us. One of light, the other dark, what we are depends on which one we feed. This picture demonstrates the even amount of healthy and tainted things that are out there in the world. We are all so unsure of who we are truly meant to be. There are so many blindsides, lost times, and there’s also many colorful moments that make living feel worthy. I usually try to remember that even though I am one person, I can still make a difference. By saying something I’m grateful for everyday, not throwing trash on the ground,  contributing to small businesses,  expressing my feelings through paintings like these, there are so many ways to show positivism through negative situations.

Welcome to Rainbow Dark Artisty

“It’s A Great Day To Be Nude” This vibrant piece shows a deep connection with nature. It portrays happy days in free ways!

Soo here it goes! Day one of my art blog creation. This project I have started to inspire people! I have always loved art, it changes my life everyday. It is not the easiest passion to hold onto, especially when you’re trying to make a living off of it. I can tell you though, nothing has ever calmed my nerves more than coloring a page, or doodling a pictures. Sometimes nothing pisses  me off more than the 100th time I’ve tried to put an image from my head onto paper and it never looks just right. Art isn’t perfect, it isn’t meant to be, its a still drawing of life. Life and it’s endless questions, very minimal answers. Art is living. It’s the way we breathe, what we like to eat, what we think, how we dance, smile, laugh, cry. Art is the way we move, the way we feel, it’s the way we live. Sometimes the questions of the unknown are all that we have, and a portrayal of relate able feelings gets us that much closer to meeting friends, and unlocking the questions!
